Remix Discussion

Infinitoar :

Hey Bassdubba I'll lay my feedback you requested.

Pluses and minuses

+instrumental intro is good till about 1:32, then-

-As soon as "I" hit, your overall feel and anticipation for this track dropped really low for me. Really low.

I feel this track needs immense work and re-time-signaturing. Vocals clash, out of time, sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow, instrumental feels empty and not really worked on at all. The mix feels like you took the song and some ambient samples and just crushed them together after 1:32.

I will not rate this at all because if I did, it would be "very" low and I don't want to seem like a as-hole.

This is not to rip your heart out and step on it, you HAVE major potential, but I feel you need a LOT of research on the creation of music and the structures of it. I hope you work more on your style and realization of what styles you wish to be and the structure of music more. Otherwise...your evolution of sound isn't going to get far.

Till next time.

Bassdubba :

Wow!!! Thanks for your comments guys. This is really a surprise for me, I had almost thought it was a complete piece of experimental crap and had given up on it.

What I wanted to do here was try something really different, something surreal. I guess lots of reviewers get tired of hearing so many remixes that they dont really put attention to some others.

And I would also like to thank those that have given me low ratings and honest reviews to support their ratings. It really helps me understand how I can progress in further production.

Good Luck to all!! Special thanks to Celldweller for making my favorite music and inspiring many in to producing and supporting independent music.

Cheers!!

The Skylift :

Here is the review.
The idea is killer.
But it doesn't work as good as we want it to.
Instrumental is very nice and atmospheric - kinda reminds us of DJ Hidden sound at "The Later After".

All instruments in this mix are just amazing.

But at the same time the vocals do not fit the music.
Absolutely.

So, the instrumental - 5 stars.
And version with vox - 2 stars.
3.5/5 in total.
It is halfway from 3 and halfway to 4.
So we will give you 4 stars because of the amazing idea ;)

Regards, The Skylift.

The Magic Puppet :

Hi Bassdubba. Thanks for you comment.

Now onto your remix. I'm am a HUUUUUGE fan of turntablism and whilst it isn't to everyone's tastes I feel that some listeners of this remix might have missed a trick when considering it.

I fully endorse and admire what you've done with this remix. It displays evidence of an improvisational and experimental methodology with the use turntables as an instrument as opposed to merely a playback device.

Hungarian artist Laszlo Moholy-Nagy wrote a very interesting paper entitled 'Production-Reproduction: Potentialities of the Phonograph' in which he discusses reproductive apparatus used for productivity with emphasis on DJ culture and phonograph experimentation. This remix is a perfect example of such a musical ideology.

I'd recommend a book entitled 'Audio Culture: Readings in Modern Music' and I suggest you read of it. Edgard Varese's 'The Liberation of Sound', William S Burroughs' 'The Invisible Generation' and John Cage's 'Introduction to Theme and Variation' are contained within and all are very interesting reads.

Not every piece of work needs to conform to the rather stagnant notions of arrangement and structure found in contemporary popular music and this remix is no exception.

I applaud you, sir. For having the balls to try something new!

4/5 from me, but a close 5/5

I look forward to hearing more of your work in the future.

Ry Boelstler [FiXT] :

The intro to this track starts off interesting, but when the guitars & "Waiting anxiously" vocals kicked in you completely lost me.

The structure ends up being very odd and you never really establish a format where you catch the listener. Additionally... I think you should have stuck with the Trip Hop and/or Hip Hop vibe you established early. By straying all over the place and being so progressive with what was originally a pretty structured tune, I never could catch a vibe. I gave your mix a 2/5.

TweakerRay [FiXT] :

Hi ! Thanks for your kind review on my mix. Well this mix has a very interesting beginning. It has some cool sounds in it and I definitly like the sub-sound. But I also have the feel, that the vocals don't fit the harmonys of your instrumental when they start at 2.03 min. The fierce synths and sounds are cool. But they have a definitly different harmonic scale than the vocals. You should do your own vocals over this and make this an original track. Or leave all remixparts away and just use what you have created. this sounds like a cool instrumental also. And I hope you don't have used any sampeled material in it (because at the ending you hear vinyl) If the rights of the samples are not cleared you might get into trouble.

Good Luck

Cheers TweakerRay [FiXT]

Blast Radius :

Quite a sparse texture you've got going on here, sounds like a bit of trip-hop and a bit of Lamb. I like the slowed-down section of the synth arpeggio stem, that's a cool idea.

I can also hear a bit of end.user in here, in his more ambient moments. It does sound like it should go somewhere in about the middle of the mix, and could do with some more instrumentation at about 3:05, but the ambient section at the end is nifty. A solid mix - 3.5!

Nightmare Simulation :

The intro was fantastic but I feel like more change ups in the beat could be used and less sound designs. It sounds like honestly a little much trying to tweak with a live DJ set than a finished remix. Love the vocoder idea too but feel like that made it build up too much for the rhythm you had. definitely let me know when you post a new mix though, I know you will continue to develop a unique sound

Mono Penguin :

Thank you for your comment man! Really cool intro, but I feel like the vocals don't go well with the mix. 3* from me sir. Good luck!!
